Expected Crowd in Kumbh Mela 2013 in Allahabad.

Kumbh Mela is held every 12th year, Ardha Kumbh Mela is held every 6th year and Magh Mela is the annual version of Kumbh. The last Kumbh Mela was held in 2001. Kumbh Mela is celebrated every six years at Haridwar and Allahabad, the Purna (complete) Kumbh takes place every twelve years,at four places Allahabad, Haridwar, Ujjain, and Nashik). The Maha (great) Kumbh Mela which comes after 12 'Purna Kumbh Melas', or 144 years, is held at Allahabad. According to the Mela Administration's estimates, around 70 million people participated in the 45-day Ardh Kumbh Mela in Allahabad, in 2007. Maha Kumbh Mela 2013 is scheduled to start at Allahabad from 14 January and it is the first auspicious date for bathing in river Ganga. Last time duration of the Kumbhmela was 44 days but this time it will last for 56 days and that is the reason why a massive eighty million devotees are expected to take a dip in the water of holy river Ganga this year. Administration of Uttar Pradesh State Government is fully prepared for Kumbha Mela 2013 and special arrangements are being made by the officials so that the pilgrims do not face any difficulty during this holy period.

Kumbh Mela is perhaps the largest congregation of people at one place in the world for the purpose of worship or to perform their religious duties. This big event takes place at the banks of river Ganga at Haridwar or Allahabad. This holy gathering held in one of the four cities after every three years and these acities are Allahabad, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik. Regular Kumbh mela is celebrated after every three years; Ardh Kumbhmela happened after every six years and Purna Kumbh Mela is celebrated at the gap of 12 years and this is the holiest one of all. The date and place of Kumbha Mela is decided purely on the basis of planetary positions of Brahaspati, Sun and Jupiter. Devotees generally have this strong belief that that water of the holy river Ganga attains nectar like properties during the period of Kumbh Fair and the holy water will wash all their sins and rejuvenate the body.

Last time when Kumbh Fair was celebrated in 2001, around Fifty million devotees participated in Mahakumbh and it was a record in itself. But in Kumbh Mela 2013, the number of pilgrims will certainly be far more than the last time and that number may be close to even 85 million. Allahabad, the host city of Maha Kumbh Mela 2013, is one of the most important cities for Hindu pilgrims and it is also known as Prayag. Devotees come here all around the year to visit beautiful temples located in Allahabad and to visit Sangam, a place where river Ganga, Yamuna and Sarawati meet. Mauni Amavasya at 10th of February is the most auspicious day and around 30 million pilgrims are expected to come on that very day.
